Naturopathic Cancer Care
Integrative naturopathic medicine can benefit patients in every stage of cancer care including: prevention, diagnosis and treatment, recovery, remission, and if needed, palliative/end of life care. In order to have a comprehensive and integrative approach, patients should be established under the care of a medical oncologist.
Naturopathic cancer therapies can be integrated very successfully with conventional intervention therapies, namely chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery. The goal of integrating strategies is not to replace conventional therapies or interfere with their effectiveness, but rather to enhance efficacy and decrease side effects to improve patients’ quality of life.
The integrative approach to cancer is built on the foundation of a healthy diet, regular physical exercise, avoidance of carcinogenic toxins, healthy bowel/eliminative habits, healthy sleep pattern, stress/anxiety management, and spiritual and emotional health. Integrative cancer treatments include, but are not limited to: botanical medicines, targeted vitamin/mineral/amino acid therapy as well as other nutrients and natural supplements.
